The Extra Mile: Soon-To-Be Rad Mom
European Customer Support Specialist, Monika, announced her pregnancy in February 2020 -- just as the COVID-19 lockdown began. With just a few short weeks until her due date, we caught up with Monika to get some insight into the life of a soon-to-be Rad Mom.
This is the first child for Monika and her husband David. They have been diligent with social distancing, and remain optimistic as they have much to look forward to. We were eager to catch up with her to see how she's been managing in these difficult times.
How has your day-to-day changed since COVID-19?
I consider myself an active person and I used to go out on the town quite often, especially during the weekends. I feel nostalgic for the days when we could join a food festival, jam together during a concert or drop into a favourite cafe without worrying about social distancing. On the other hand, my husband and I moved to Utrecht recently so I do not know too many people here, apart from the ones I work with. My family and friends live in Poland, so I’ve gotten used to only seeing them twice a year. For me, it hasn't changed much in terms of seeing loved ones. I tend to try to keep positive, even in the most difficult situations. During the pandemic, I’ve gotten to know my local neighbourhood and I’ve discovered new places thanks to my daily walks and bike rides.
How have you found working from home?
I live very close to the office, and really enjoyed riding my bike to and from work. This is something I’ve really missed. My road to work is enjoyable as it runs through a nice neighbourhood with many trees and a sizable lake. There is a beautiful array of birdlife to spot every morning and afternoon, and the Netherlands infrastructure makes riding your bike really safe and convenient.
What I miss the most is my team and the face-to-face interactions with my coworkers. It's something that cannot be replaced by online meetings.
What do you like most about working at Rad?
I am very proud of being part of the Rad family. It is inspiring to feel that the result of my work is tangible and that I can experience the product we offer to the customer. The atmosphere in our office is unique and we enjoy working together. We are diverse and we come from different countries. Everyone in the team contributes something good and special.
How have you found riding your ebike has benefited your day-to-day?
Before moving to the Netherlands, I never rode a bike to commute. Instead, I used it leisurely, and during the weekends. But now I ride my RadRunner daily. I’ve learned to dress appropriately, especially during wet weather, so this doesn’t detract for my riding experience. And having an ebike is perfect for powering through the wind!
What is your ebiking plan, post-pregnancy?
Would it be weird if I rode my bike back home from the hospital after the delivery? (Laughs!)
