Now that Spring has sprung, and Summer is approaching, it’s time to take advantage of the gorgeous weather, and prepare your ebike for miles and miles of Rad rides!
Daylight hours are growing longer, and, thankfully, the weather is getting warmer. It’s time to prep your ebike for the Radventure that awaits you.
Whether you’ve been using your bike for daily commutes, or have it locked up in storage waiting for the weather to improve, your ebike could use a little TLC. Here are our top tips to keep you riding Rad this season:
Clean your bike
A clean bike is a happy bike! Dirt can build up on your bike, especially if you’re riding on muddy terrain, which can lead to rusting over time. To avoid this happening, you should clean your bike regularly. Use a moist rag or old t-shirt, and a non-corrosive biodegradable cleaner.
It is best to avoid using a pressure-washer or hose to clean your bike as this could cause water damage to electrical components and will likely void the warranty.
Clean and Lubricate your chain
As with all bikes, ebikes require regular cleaning to keep the drivetrain working well and to extend the life of the bike. Rain, grime, mud, rock, salt, and dirt can damage the chain over time.
Keep the bike right-side up when the bike is wet or being cleaned. Rad Power Bikes components are designed to drain moisture from top to bottom, and flipping the bike over to clean it could cause water damage and void your warranty.
Check out our step-by-step guide on the best practice to follow when cleaning your bike chain:
Check your brakes
To assure that your brakes are working properly, spin the wheels whilst they are off the ground then pull both the front and back brakes independently.
With a brand new bike, a small amount of brake rubbing and noise can occur during the break-in period. Rubbing and noise will usually resolve itself over time. If the brakes squeak or rub after the 60-80 kilometre break-in period, you may need to increase the spacing between the brake rotor and the brake pads.

Adjust your seat
Make sure your seat is positioned correctly and comfortably. The height of your saddle is very important. If done incorrectly it can cause bad posture, muscle pain, strain and even injury.
Keep an eye on your tire pressure
The tires used on each model were designed to be high-performance, visible and durable. To avoid flat tires or punctures, make sure your tires are properly inflated. Optimum pressure varies due to a number of factors, and because of this, there are no fixed rules. The same principles and physics that apply to regular bicycles also apply to ebikes. Best practice suggests to lower tire pressure during wet weather conditions, or when riding through rough terrain.
The minimum and maximum pressure should be visible on the side of the tire. Although this is a guideline, you should not exceed the maximum.
Visit your local mechanic
Rad Power Bikes ebikes have been manufactured with standard components, so your local mechanic should have no trouble servicing your bike when needed.
